Hotel Sobota has a very advantageous location – in surrounding locality there is a wide range of opportunities, as hiking, bathing, sightseeing and the history of Podtatranský region, the cities of Spiš region, Zamaguria and Gemer and also other leisure activities.

Hotel Sobota - Spišská SobotaIn the 12th century the market settlement Spišská Sobota was established on the old historic road that runs through the valley of the river Poprad and the cities of Kežmarok and Červený Kláštor towards Balt, at its confluence with the Velický brook and on its left bank. When you decide to sightsee historic monuments in the surroundings of the hotel, you should visit Spišská Sobota and its square.
The Roman Catholic Church of St. George’s is the oldest preserved building in Spišská Sobota. It is the most important building of the city and its interior belongs to the most preserved and treasurable ones in the Spiš region as well as in whole Slovakia. The wooden wing altar of St. George is the masterpiece of Master Pavol from Levoča. The renaissance bell tower from 1598 located on the square and also Imaculata are unmissable.

Other towns and monuments in surroundings that are worth seeing are the historic town of Levoča and Kežmarok where two cultural monuments are located – lyceum (with one of the biggest historical libraries in the Central Europe) and wooden link church from 18th century. Even nowadays Kežmarok belongs to the biggest and most beautiful towns in the Spiš region.

Slovak painter Ladislav Medňanský, one of the best artists in his period, had lived and worked in this castle. Spišský hrad the national cultural monument and the biggest castle in the Central Europe located on a limestone rocks that tops surrounding terrain by 200 metres and near Kežmarok at an elevation of 634 metres governs the hollow Spišská kotlina. You can see its beautiful location and architecture for which it is worth to make efforts to climb up to the castle only from the castle itself.

Open-air folk museum of Liptov village in Pribylina will bring back the memories of the past. Open-air folk museum of Liptov village in Pribylina is different from other natural museums in Slovakia because besides the wooden folk architecture there are also built houses of high rank of the Liptov region in the past. The museum has its own zooexposition whose aim is not only to enrich and expand the program for visitors but at the same time engage in breeding some native carpathian breeds of animals which breeding is nowadays in retreat.

You can see the beauty of the High Tatras, Slovak Paradise and Pieniny while walking or cycling. Alpine tours into different corners of the High Tatras make some people tired but others regard them as pleasant relaxation. Discover the beauty of chalets, as Zamkovského chata, and chalet near Zelené pleso, etc. Fans of bikes will appreciate beautiful cycle tracks through the valleys Tichá and Koprovská dolina, mountain lake Popradské pleso, Starý Smokovec towards Hrebienok.

Tomašovský výhľad in Slovak Paradise is called rocky gallery. Thanks to a beautiful scenery of Prielom Hornádu and the High Tatras is this view sought-after place in Slovak Paradise. For mountain climbers the Tomašovský výhľad is an ideal place of climbing training and competition. The valley Sokolia dolina is one of the most intact place of Slovak Paradise. It was discovered as one of the last tourist places. You can walk through the valley right next to the waterfall using the 80 metres high system of ladders, small bridges and risers.

Červený Kláštor offers you to sail down the river on the wooden floats and adrenaline rafting on rubber boats on the river Dunajec.

Other summer activities and possibilities of spending the leisure time in the High Tatras are tatrabob and paintball in Tatranská Lomnica, golf in Veľká Lomnica. The more brave ones can diversify their leisure time with joy flights, paragliding, bungee jumping, a man-powered three-wheelers Stanley Rider, Mountainboard, Summertubing. You can enjoy riding a horse or horse-drawn wagons.
